Ranjev, officially the Commonwealth of Ranjev, is a country in northern Zavoia. Primarily situated on the Magadonia subcontinent, it is a multi-national constitutional dual kingdom comprising of the kingdoms of Yesse and Lichtaria. These two sovereign states have a single monarch titled both the King of Yesse and King of Lichtaria. Also known as simply the Commonwealth, it includes the Ranafian penninsula as well as several colonial possessions across the Karuaic Ocean. On the metropole, it shares a land border with Tzornya, Jormaria, Kataobia, and a short border on the island of Mazima with Kivany. The capital and largest city of the entire Commonwealth as well as Yesse, as well as the official king’s residence, is Inverbar; though Jochembrat is the national capital of Lichtaria.

Ranafia has been continuously inhabited for over thousands of years. First inhabited by Kivanic peoples who migrated southward in the 300s-500 MDG, it was settled and colonized by Manists from Izmrod starting in 689 MDG. The Yessians emerged as descendants of these Manist colonists, who founded settlements and cities. Amid the struggle for control of the Moshabi Sea, the first major Yessian state emerged as a maritime power in the tenth century MDG.

Prophet Alechyar the Wise, widely revered as a founding father of Ranjev today, was the first Avabist to step foot in Ranafia in 1410. Further expeditions sponsored by the Zascaic Temple brought even more Avabists. By the 1500s, the Vicusian princedoms of Magavick and Sagavick set up colonies along the coast; this culminated in the complete domination of Ranafia by Vicus. Following the Second Fall of Morev and the Avabist Spring that followed, religious rebellion and civil war in Vicus prompted the independence of a unified Kingdom of Yesse in 1641, led by King Mikarch of Nilack.

Shortly after independence, following a short civil war, Yohech IV and I of Ranjev
